Aarthi Scans Upgrades AI for Detection of Critical Brain Pathologies Reporting within 10 mins

When Aarthi Scans and Labs (Aarthi Scans) needed assistance for processing an increasing volume of non-contrast CT brain scans to fulfil their hospital support commitments, they found a solution in Annalise’s Enterprise CTB.

With one of the world’s most comprehensive AI-backed solutions for non-contrast CT brain studies at their disposal, Aarthi’s radiologists can more easily make rapid, accurate decisions, particularly in high-pressure situations involving trauma and emergency care cases.

Aarthi Scans and Labs: India’s leading diagnostic provider

As the largest radiology and pathology service in India, Aarthi Scans and Labs serve more than 7,000 patients a day. They have over 65 diagnostic centres across the country, including in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, providing a full suite of cutting-edge radiology services to patients.

With their dedication to staying at the forefront of medical imaging, Aarthi Scans is an early adopter of exciting new technologies designed to enhance diagnosis and patient care. This commitment led to their partnership with annalise.ai a world-leading provider of AI-powered radiology solutions.

After-hours support for critical care

In regions where Aarthi Scans and Labs operate, trauma cases often face imaging delays as patients need to travel hours to reach tertiary hospitals with appropriate facilities. This is a particular challenge for after-hours emergencies.

Not only do Aarthi Scans’ sites operate as outpatient clinics, but they also provide after-hours support. From midnight, they shift to become emergency diagnostic imaging clinics for patients referred from hospitals, many of which lack in-house CT scanners and rely on Aarthi for after-hours imaging.

This support helps ensure patients with potentially critical and life-threatening conditions receive timely diagnosis and treatment.

Aarthi Scans has at least one to two radiologists at each of their sites, sometimes more, plus a centralised system that manages case allocation between 40-50 radiologists who specialise in brain imaging. They frequently encounter time-critical cases such as intracranial haemorrhage and stroke, which require urgent review to optimise patient outcome.

How to process large volumes of scans while maintaining accuracy?

With their commitment to providing timely care, Aarthi Scans faced a challenge: How could they process a large and growing volume of scans quickly and efficiently, while maintaining their standards of diagnostic excellence?

Always a leader in adopting state-of-the-art equipment to optimise its processes, Aarthi Scans turned to technology for solutions.

Discovering one of the most comprehensive CT brain AI solutions

Following a review of the available products, Aarthi Scans identified one of the world’s most comprehensive radiology AI solutions for decision support, Annalise Enterprise CTB. Designed by clinicians for clinicians, Annalise Enterprise CTB can detect up to 130 findings on non-contrast CTB studies in a matter of minutes, including numerous critical pathologies that require time-sensitive review and rapid treatment.

Support to ensure deployment success

Experts from annalise.ai were on hand to support Aarthi Scans and Labs throughout the deployment process, including dedicated deployment engineers who collaborated closely with the Aarthi Scans IT department for a seamless integration.

Prior to deployment, annalise.ai delivered a webinar-style presentation and product demonstration, along with dedicated training resources for self-directed onboarding to support flexibility for all Radiologists across the network.

Post-deployment, Annalise provided ongoing support, such as maintenance, troubleshooting, updates, and continuous improvement efforts.

Following deployment, the Annalise Customer Success team continues to support the clinical team, ensuring product adoption remains high and best practices are followed.

Dr Arun Kumar Govindarajan, Executive Director & Radiologist, Aarthi Scans and Labs:

CT brain triaging through AI is close to my heart for the sheer amount of time saved in strokes and head injuries. The turnaround time for critical conditions, such as stroke detection, is incredibly small. Using the annalise.ai technology, we can analyse CT brain scans with exceptional accuracy, identifying potential abnormalities and highlighting them to radiologists within 10 minutes [i]. This rapid turnaround time is a game-changer for patients with urgent medical needs, such as those suspected of having a stroke or brain injury.

Dr Aarthi, Executive Director and Chief Radiologist at Aarthi Scans & Labs:

“The solution’s triaging feature ensures that it’s no longer first-in first-out as before. The ability of the AI to triage and prioritise the scans that need my immediate attention is extremely useful. The Annalise Enterprise AI outputs also help generate complete, editable draft reports that I can review and sign off. This is in addition to providing clinical decision support for 100s of additional findings prevalent on CT Brain examinations that are often subtle and difficult to detect.”
